Designed to advance developments in the field of relationship finance, this unique conference offers theory and practice advancing family financial education. The first session features speakers presenting theory behind decision making models/dynamics within couples with respect to money decisions. The second session offers perspectives from counseling and financial service practitioners.
Topics range from the dynamics of intergender differences to real estate purchases to military financial counseling perspectives.

“Healthy Marriages Healthy Relationships”
Healthy Marriages Grand Rapids, MI
Funded by a federal grant and local match, a community-based Healthy Marriages Healthy Relationships (HMHR) initiative teaches relationship skills and promotes healthy marriages to mostly low-income parents and expectant parents. The goal is to strengthen marriages and parental relationships in order to improve the wellbeing of children.
The Grand Rapids HMHR initiative includes the following features:
- Involving ten community partners, actively consulting with all elements of the initiative
- Reaching more than 4,200 low-income parents and expectant parents
- Utilizing trained facilitators from within the community
- Engaging participants with research-based curricula
- Teaching real-world skills, applicable in a variety of situations

From hooking up, to living together or bearing children out of wedlock, the landscape of how relationships form in the U. S. has undergone dramatic changes. Many potentially life-altering relationship transitions now happen before commitment develops. Professor Scott Stanley will discuss the implications of these trends for both individuals and society. Dr. Stanley is co-director of the Center for Marital and Family Studies at the University of Denver. He is the author of numerous books including The Power of Commitment.
